Currency: The two official currencies are the euro on the French side, and the florin (NAF) or guilder on the Dutch side. However, American dollars are accepted across the island and are frequently used as currency of reference. There are several currency exchanges and banks with ATMs all over the island. Please note that there are a lot of places that do not accept checks, but most accept the main international credit cards.

COVID-19 Info
Arrival
All travelers must complete the mandatory health pre-authorization application through an Electronic Health Authorization System (EHAS). Sint Maarten requires all travelers to purchase health insurance for entry to the island. On the last step of the EHAS form you'll be asked to enter your payment details for the insurance. The cost is $15 and the list of items the health insurance covers can be found here.
Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to take a COVID-19 test for entry. The date of completion of vaccination must be submitted as well as valid proof of vaccination. Find FAQS here.
Non vaccinated travelers must complete and submit a rt-PCR test take no more than 48 hrs. before departure. Find the types of COVID-19 tests allowed for entry here.
If health authorization is pre-approved, you will receive a (printable) pre-authorization PDF via e-mail, which must be presented at check in and to the health and immigration authorities upon arrival. This PDF will also contain a QR code which will show the vaccination status and COVID test result when scanned.
Departure
For your convenience, Sonesta Resorts Sint Maarten has arranged with the country’s top lab to get testing available within Maho Village, just across the street from our resorts. Both Rapid Antigen and RT-PCR tests are available to guests who require them for their onward travel.
Testing is conducted by St Maarten Laboratory Services (SLS). The cost of the Ag Rapid Test is $45 USD and the RT-PCR is $75.00 USD and can be paid directly at the facility. Test results will be emailed directly to the guest. For more information, please inquire with one of our front desk agents.
Testing slots are for Monday through Saturday, with mandatory pre-booking of appointments through the resorts’ front desk. While there is no testing normally offered on Sundays, please check with the Front Desk for potential solutions.
