July 14th - 17th, 2022
Day 1: Welcome to Puerto Rico! Plan to arrive between 3pm - 6pm and check in to our boutique hotel in Old San Juan! Our welcome dinner will be in Old San Juan tonight so we can eat great food and explore historic Puerto Rico! Attire is Dress to Impress
Day 2: Today we’re exploring Loíza, the town where members of the Yoruba tribe settled after they were brought to the island as enslaved people. We’ll get to learn from community members, enjoy authentic street food, and learn about the music and dance of this Afro Puerto Rican town!
Next we’re head on a night time LED kayaking tour at Condado Beach! We’ll get to explore the mangroves, the unique ecosystem, and hopefully see a manatee or two! Finally we’ll have dinner in Old San Juan and enjoy a night out!
Day 3: Today we’ll start in Old San Juan and head to the historic forts, the restaurant where the piña colada was invented, the famous umbrella street, and more! We’ll also get try one of Puerto Rico’s authentic dishes, Mofongo (Yum!)
Then we’ll grab our swimsuits and shades for our beach day and spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the beautiful waters the island has to offer! After our day at the beach we’ll head back to our hotel to get ready for our last night out!
Day 4: We made it to the last day! We’ll make our way to the airport with unforgettable memories and connections! The trip may be over but you’ll return relaxed and rejuvenated with a new HBCU family!

Puerto Rico COVID-19 Guidelines
What about COVID-19?
In the event there is a shut down and/or it becomes unsafe for us to travel to Puerto Rico, we will postpone the trip to a back up date. The back up date will be selected upon postponement.
Do I need to get COVID-19 tested?
All participants will need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours before departure. Antigen and PCR tests are accepted.
Do I need to be vaccinated against COVID-19?
It is not a requirement to be vaccinated to attend this trip. However, we strongly suggest that all participants are vaccinated to protect themselves against the virus during travel.
