Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica! Plan to arrive at 3pm or later and check in to our hotel in San José! After you get settled, feel free to explore the city before dinner!

Day 2: Today we’re heading to Puerto Viejo, the home of Afro Costa Rican culture! Once we arrive and check in, we’ll explore Cahuita National Park, one of the best national parks in Costa Rica! We’ll go on an easy hike through the jungle and get a chance to see the nature and wildlife that Cahuita has to offer!

Day 3: Grab your swimsuit! We’re starting our day with a kayaking excursion on the emerald colored sea! We’ll paddle up a calm estuary into the jungle and then paddle out to the calm sea! After kayaking we’ll get a chance to participate in our service project (more details to come closer to the trip)! Finally, we’ll go back to the hotel and get some rest before we head out for the night!

Day 4: Today we’ll get a chance to experience Afro Latin culture with a crash course in dance! Our Alvin Ailey trained instructor will teach us the basics of bachata and salsa to help us understand the root of body movements to the rhythms from African cultures!

After our class, it’s time to head to the beach! We’ll spend the day relaxing by the water and enjoying some fun in the sun!

Day 5: Today we’re heading back to San José for our last full day in Costa Rica! Once we arrive we’ll have time to explore the capital city, eat some great food, lounge in the hotel, and get ready for our last night out in Costa Rica!

Day 6: We made it to the last day! We’ll make our way to the airport with unforgettable memories and connections! The trip may be over but you’ll return relaxed and rejuvenated with a new HBCU family!
