Day 1: Travel day! You’ll leave the states today headed for Johannesburg and will arrive tomorrow!
Maboneng precint
Day 2: Welcome to Joburg! Once you arrive you’ll be received at O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) with a warm welcome. Once you get settled, we’ll be heading to Maboneng for dinner and drinks at a few of the Black owned restaurants in the area!
Apartheid museum
Day 3: Today we’re heading to Soweto, the most famous township in South Africa, known for their efforts in the anti-apartheid movement. After our time in Soweto we’ll make our way to the Apartheid Museum to learn about the history of South Africa, the effects of apartheid, and the country’s first Black president, Nelson Mandela.

Day 4: Get your cameras ready because today we’re going on an amazing safari drive where we’ll get a chance to see the Big 5! After the safari drive we’ll head to the Union Buildings to take pictures with the iconic 30ft Nelson Mandela statue!

Day 5: Today we’re hopping on a flight to Cape Town! Once we get settled we’ll go to the top of Signal Hill and get an incredible view of Table Mountain, one of the 7 Wonders of Nature! Then we’ll make a stop in Bo Kaap to see the iconic brightly colored houses that represent freedom and expression for many in Cape Town!

Day 6: We’re starting our day with a ferry ride to Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela, Robert Sobukwe, and many other political leaders were imprisoned for decades for leading the anti-apartheid movement. After the tour we’ll head to V&A Waterfront to have lunch and shop for souvenirs!

Day 7: Free Day! Enjoy your day to yourself exploring Cape Town! You can shop for souvenirs, try local restaurants, go to a museum, or kick back by the hotel pool!
Day 8: We’re heading back to Joburg! Once we land we’ll drop off our bags and take part in our service project (specific information on the service project will be available closer to the trip date)!
Day 9: Today we’re going to a cultural village to experience aspects of the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Ndebele and Basotho culture and tribes!

Day 10: We made it to the last day! We’re headed to the airport to make our way back to the states! The trip may be over but you’ll return with amazing memories, connections, and a new HBCU family!
Day 11: You’ll land back in the U.S. today! Consider taking tomorrow off to rest and readjust from your jet lag!
